How Do We Find The Right Class For Our Child?

If your child has indicated they are interested in learning how to dance, our staff will help you find the most suitable program. In order to place your child in the correct level, our staff will ask the following questions:

1. Does your child have any experience or are they new to dance?

2. Has your child participated in other activities which might help them with co-ordination?

3. Is your child looking for a more active or passive dance class?

For example: Jazz is more of a cardio workout whereas ballet focuses more on grace & flexibility.

Generally students are placed according to their age and level of ability. For example, a 7 year old with no ballet experience would be better in a class of 6 and 7 year olds rather than a class of 7 to 9 year olds.

What are your class sizes?

We try to keep the class size ranging from 10 to 12 students. In some cases the class may have more students; however, these classes will have an assistant assigned to help. The minimum number of participants needed to run a class is 6. If we do not receive enough interest to offer the class you have registered for we will contact you with other options.

Are your teachers Qualified?

All of our teachers are highly qualified professional adult instructors. Many are still performing professionally, have performed in the past or have completed post-secondary programs.  A short bio and photo can be found for each of our instructors on our Faculty page.

Do I have to attend all year or can i attend for one term?

We hope that your child will continue dancing all year as it is an excellent form of exercise that develops grace, balance, strength,co-ordination and posture. We also hope to provide your child with an enjoyable experience while teaching respect, discipline, confidence and teamwork.  Our year-end recital provides students with a goal to work towards. It is an opportunity for him or her to develop confidence, stage presence, and ultimately to share with their families and friends what they have learned all year. However, if your child is absolutely not enjoying their dance experience, they may withdraw. No withdrawals will be allowed after January 1st.

How Long Is The Dance Season?

Our classes run for 10 months from September to the end of June. Tuition is charged to your account on the 1st of every month. We do not accept any withdrawals after February 15th as we start working on recital dances

How do I register?

All registration is done online through our management software. You will receive all registration materials after registration is complete and your $25.00 registration fee/ per student is processed. Please make sure you provide us an email that you check regularly as we will use your email to send out important information regarding FDC.

If you need help registering online please contact us and we would be glad to help you.

How Do I pay my monthly tuition?

On the 1st of every month your monthly tuition will be charge to you account. Please make sure you imput in the correct payment information while registering. FDC payments can be made by credit card or from a bank account.
It is your responsibility to ensure that all banking information on file is up to date. You can update any payment/billing information by logging into the customer portal.

All late payments will be subject to a $30 charge.
Any NSF payments will be subject to a $30 charge.

Why do I have to pay the full months tuition in months where there are fewer classes?

FDC guarantees that 34 classes will be offered during the dance year. When you enroll your dancer in our dance classes, you are enrolling in the entire 10 month season. To make payments more reasonable for you, we divide up them into 10 equal payments. Please note that we do ask for the first payment and registration fee upon registering to secure your child’s spot.

At the end of the year, regardless of whether there were 3, 4, or 5 classes in any given month, your child will have had the opportunity to attend at least 34 classes.

What extra fees should I be aware about besides tuition?

Students must follow the dress code, including proper shoes, for all classes. Students performing in our year end recital will also need to purchase a costume for each class. The only other fees are recital tickets, professional photographs in costume (optional) and recital DVD (optional).

Can I watch my child dance?

Parents are not able to watch their children during class time. This results in many distractions and will take away from your child’s learning while attending class. We do schedule “Parent Viewing Week” twice a year so that parents can observe their child’s growth and progress. As we get closer to the year end recital there may be opportunities for parents to come watch the final few minutes of the class, but please know that this is done at the instructor’s discretion.
Please stay tuned for our  viewing week dates!

If there are instances where children are feeling anxious, particularly at the beginning of the year, we may ask parents to walk their dancer in, but we will ask you to leave once your child is more comfortable.

What can you tell me about the annual showcase?

FDC Annual Showcase will be held sometime in late May or early June. We encourage all FDC dancers to participate in the showcase and show off all their hard work. This is not mandatory and dancers may decide not to participate.

Tickets for the showcase are generally between $15-$20/ticket and can be purchased online

We offer our FDC families the option to purchase a professional, high quality edited DVD of the final recital.

Why does my child seems to be doing steps they've already learned?

As in any sport or activity, physical movements must be repeated many times in order to achieve one’s personal best. Repetition will help train and define those muscles your child needs to be the best they can be. Even professional dancers repeat the basics daily.

I feel my child isn't being challenged in the class that he/she is in. What should i Do?

You may schedule a conference with your child’s teacher and/or the studio director if you feel strongly about this. However, please remember that our staff is highly qualified and places students in the classes that are best suited for them technically and emotionally. Often times setting individual goals for that student or even changing styles of dance may be all that it takes

Do I have to stay during my child's class?

We ask that parents of our younger students remain at the school during their child’s class, in case their dancer needs to use the restroom during class. However, if your child is able to use the restroom alone you’re welcome to leave during your dancer’s class. Please realize we are teaching and FDC is not responsible for providing before or after class care for students. Therefore, please only drop off your child a few minutes prior to class and be prompt when picking them up. All of our dancers are required to wait inside until their ride arrives, this is for their safety.

Is there a dress code and hair requirements for class?

Yes, please refer to our dress code requirements

How Much Are Costumes Fees?

Students will be responsible for costume fees, which will range in price from $ 85 – $130 per class per discipline. This cost will include recital costume, duties, shipping and custom fees. Costumes will not be ordered until the costume payment has been received. Costume fees are non-refundable.
